Charlie's Room

For Charlie's room I wanted to highlight the idea of repitition and structure this is because hone doing my research I noticed that people with autism are very logical and they almost want things to be simplistic and straight forward. I wanted to repeat a blue theme throughout his bedroom this is why I chose to have blue, stripy bedcovers and matching blind. I liked the idea of having stripes within his room because it creates the idea of normality which can be seen through these lines because they are straight and not confusing which again creates the idea of simplicity. When researching using the tv show Atypical I noticed the repetition of blue in his bedroom that is one of the reasons why I decided to include blue. Also within Atypical he has a fascination with penguins which can be seen in his room because he has posters and pictures. I thought very carefully when designing Charlie's room because I was wanted to recreate the same idea by having the repetition of Spiderman which can be seen in his room as well as downstairs. I wanted to keep the walls very plain because I wanted to bedroom to be very organised and I felt that if I would have put posters up it would look to cluttered due to its size. If I had chosen a bigger bedroom I would have chosen to cover the walls in posters, if I would have done this with this room it would be very inclosed and could create the idea of claustrophobia. Also when doing research I noticed that some people with autism react badly to situations like this which is another reason why I decided to do . When looking at what objects/toys I should include when building this bedroom I decided to include books that were based on astronomy and science as well as superheroes and comics. When looking at Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang theory you can notice that he is a scientist and is fascinated with space and physics, this is why I wanted to include books that are based on these topics. I also wanted figurines/toys which relate to Spiderman. The reason why I wanted to highlight Spiderman as a specific interest of Charlie's is because when you think of Spiderman you think of increase senses and therefore touch and hearing which are seen as superpowers, this idea is very similar to autism in a way that there is an increase in senses creating at connection between the tow almost creating a bond, almost someone to relate to and understand.
