Non genre specific- Mikes new car short film

Image
When investigating other genres of short film I focussed on the short film that related to Monster Inc (2001) which was a adventure and comedy. The short film I decided to look at was Mikes New Car which was made in 2002 which was also had a comedy genre. I thought by investigating this genre of film I would research the complete opposite genre to drama and explore the other possibilities that you might find with the comedy genre. This short film explores one of the main characters Mike getting a new car and him and the other main character Sullivan experience difficulties with it. Camerawork is used throughout this short film to emphasise the comedic genre of the film. You can tell this because there are a lot of wide shots being used front onto the car showing both of the character in the shot. With the use of a wide shot the audience is made aware that the both characters and the car are the most important things within the film, the fact that the film doesn't explo...

Genre specific- UNWIND short film

Image
This short film explores the idea of the answer for abortion. Instead of aborting a child the parents will sign a contract that allows the child to grow up in camps until the ages of 16, 17 or 18 when the process called the unwinding begins which involves the child's organs to get harvested to be used at a later date by their parents. The short film captures the unwinding or a teenage girl. I would say that this film is both part of the sci-fi and drama genres, due to the storyline relating to modern day problems and how it is set in the future. One aspect of mise-en-scene which helps the audience understand that it is part of the drama genre is the sound. What I mean by this is that within stereotypical drama films you find the reoccurrence of certain sounds for example the beating of someones heart or their breath. In this case it is a heart machine which is introduced at the start when the message about the storyline explains to the audience what it is about. With this sou...

Non genre specific- Radioactive Imagine Dragons music video

Image
This music video is about a underground fight club with a twist. The cub fights supernatural teddies. The song is sung by Imagine Dragons and it is called Radioactive with over 700,000,000 views on youtube the music video was a major hit. Within the video you get to see the band being held as prisoners with isn't clear until the end where the only female character rescues them. I found that this music video followed a story that fit into the thriller/sci-fi genre with the teddies being supernatural. This music video doesn't follow the stereotypical conventions of a drama genre because it doesn't include things like a voice over or scenes which relate to real life stories and occurrences. One aspect of mine-en-scene that helps the audience identify the music video as being thriller/sci-fi is sound. The reoccurring sound of a boxing bell is heard creating the idea of a boxing match and therefore further implying that the music video is based around a underground fight c...

When watching and analysing The Greatest by Sia music video I found that the video was made up of long shots which involved the camera following the main girl who features in the majority of Sia music video. By having someone who appears in all of her videos allows the audience to associate the girl with Sia and therefore almost creates a image for Sia and something that the target audience can look out for. The reason why long camera shots were used was to make the video flow and makes it look effective. When I was researching the idea behind the music video I found that it was based around the shooting in America which resulted in many people dying, this therefore relates to the drama element that I am researching. When researching the stereotypical conventions of drama I found that a lot of drama films are based on true stories or in this case a music video, for example Titanic. The clothing that can be seen in the music video are very dull which contrasts the rainbows which are se...

Research: Chosen genre conventions

Drama Codes and conventions -use of lighting to create the emotion wanted in the scene for example dull lighting to convey emotion and sadness. -Deliberately using camera shots to portray the power between characters. -Typically set where drama is known for example a school (teen drama), a workplace or a social area like a supermarket or shopping centre. -The storyline could include a romance and then there could be a bad ending to the story. -Storyline could also follow modern day events making the product informative as well. -The typical props that are found in drama media products are guns, knives, alcohol and mobile phones. -Includes emotional scenes (close up shots showing emotions). -Follows mainly one character. -Some drama products have a narration. -Includes dramatic music for the emotional scenes, contrasting the silence of the rest of the scenes -Point of view shots -storyline could be based on a true story Examples -Titanic (1997) -The Shawshank Redemption ...

Research: Methods of promotion

How are films/artists promoted?  Films and artists are promoted in a range of ways, examples of this are the use of social media for interviews in which feature the artists or actors, conventions like comic con which allows the audience of the films to go and experience talks and interviews with the actors, merchandise is also another way of promoting the film/ artist, franchises which allows the film to be promoted through other films/media products, press releases and advertising campaigns can also be used to promote pieces of media.  All of these techniques are used to advertise either a film or a album which therefore indices the target audience to watch or even buy the film/album. What the public normally gets from these methods of promotion are the dates of which the film/album is released and the cinematic release dates also the basic storyline and idea behind it. Films and albums could also be promoted through advertisements on billboards and film posters in the newsp...
