Location changes

I had to make changes to the location in order for it to look the way i wanted it to look, for example I wanted the kitchen to be moderately tidy. I also wanted it to look very organised. The things i had to change were the front of the fridge, the kitchen surfaces and i also decided to introduce shelves which were clearly labelled that they were for Charlie. For the fridge i removed all of the magnets, the reason why i chose to do this was because stereotypically people with autism like to be very organised whether this involves either patterns or just cleanliness. Removing all of the magnets allowed the fridge to look clean therefore relating to the idea of autism and how it changes things.

I completely tidied the kitchen limiting the amount of stuff that was on the surfaces therefore emphasising the organisation that is needed. I still wanted to create the idea of a family kitchen to highlight the idea that families that are effected by autism arn't any different from other families. I also tried to remove as much colour as possible, what i mean by this is that i wanted the location to be very plain, like his outfit.




I wanted Charlie to have his own shelf to emphasise how specific he likes things to be, for example the orange juice and the bread is all the same. I wanted to incorporate this idea from the tv series that i researched, Atypical. I also wanted to show the comparison between the two different lives, one side organised and the other side chaotic.





When deciding on what props I wanted to use I focussed on the idea of super heroes and fictional characters. I thought Spiderman would be a really good superhero to repeat throughout my short film. I wanted to highlight the idea that Charlie relates to Spiderman because of their shared sensitivity to certain situations. I also wanted to create the idea that Charlie looks up to him because of their shared characteristics. This allows the audience to slightly understand what he might be going through because of the relation to Spiderman and that the film is very popular so people already know him and his story.
