Film poster analysis- Dunkirk
I wanted to research different types of drama. Dunkirk is both an action and a drama. When looking at the Dunkirk film poster you can see that there are the same typical aspects which can be found on a lot of other film posters, for example the title, the release date the actors name and the directors name The title is in bold and stands out against the darker background. There is also a repetition of blue within it; both in the background and the title. The connotations of the colour blue are loyalty, wisdom, faith, intelligence and truth. This could relate to the storyline of the film.
You can infer from the film poster that the film is about the battle of Dunkirk. This is because the title is Dunkirk and the rise en scene of the poster relates to the idea of war. The costume that the person, possibly the main character, is wearing is a army uniform and the plain in the background infers that its is set in the past because it is a typical fighter plain which was common in the 1900's. The burning ash also implies that there is action and danger which therefor highlights that there is drama in the film.
The title is positioned at the bottom which is different to the film posters for Atypical and Wonder. The main information is bigger then the less important info, this makes the audience notice selected info first which draws their eyes to it. The font sed for the title is bold and simple which works really effectively because of the detail that can be found in the background of the poster. With the character being placed on the film poster it allows the audience to be given an insight to aspects of the film. It also gives a visual aid for the film so the audience can relate this image to the film which is a common convention of a film poster.
