Film poster research- Atypical analysis
Atypical
When looking at the film poster for Atypical the Netflix original tv series I found that due to the similar them is was quite easy to gather information on what I should include on my own. First of all I noticed the typical connotations that you would find on a film poster, for example the title, release date, photos of the characters and some aspect which relate to the tv series.

The colours that are used are very simplistic, apart from the photos of the characters and the the word Netflix the poster follows a blue theme which also relates to the penguin aspect of the series. The Netflix logo has to be in red because that is its own logo and it is included on the poster because it is the company which produced it, which is another convention of a film poster. The simplistic colour theme relates to the idea of autism because people who have autism only see things that are straight in front of them therefore things that are simple. The text is in white because it is wanting to stand out and make a statement which draws the audiences eyes. There is only the important information on the poster which is highlighted.
With the introduction of the character at the bottom of the poster allows the viewer to know something about the series and the way that the boy is bigger then everyone else highlights that his is the main character. Having the main characters on a film poster is a typical aspect of a film poster. When relating this to its genre, drama/documentary you can see that the idea of the thought bubble reflects this. The reason why I think this is because a documentary is informative and in Atypical you are given an insight into the mind of an autistic child which is why the thought bubble is really effective.
The text that has been used is almost childlike/ handwritten, it also looks like a word that has been doodled. This relates to the idea of it being simple and the font is really effective because it highlights the idea that people with autism are almost childlike. The important text is positioned in the centre of the poster which highlights its importance to the viewer because it is the first thing that their eyes are drawn to.
I am wanting to use this poster as main inspiration for my poster due to the effectiveness of it and how much it relates to my film.
