Magazine review- aspects and explanation
In the top left hand corner you can see that there is a banner which reads 'review'. The reason why i placed it in the corner is because when I did my research I found that many other magazine reviews had banners almost to highlight that the article was a review. Due to it being positioned at the top of the page it was the first thing the audience saw which therefore makes it effective and ideal for my magazine review. Another aspect which is located in the top left hand corner is the title 'Charlie'. By putting the title at the top of the page it is made clear to the viewer that it is important and therefore the title. The reason why I situated it in the top left hand corner is the same reason for the banner, because it catches the audience eyes and is the first thing they see. By having it in black font it stands out against the background and I decided to use the same font as my film poster which allows a reoccurring theme to be created. The title of the film is on the magazine review because it is a common convention of magazine reviews to have the title of the film on the page, this therefore means that is conforms to the stereotypes of magazine reviews. With the font being bold it is very eye catching which results in it being effective. Another aspect which is located in the top left hand corner is star ratings. I wanted to include star ratings to give an idea of different peoples opinions, not only the person who is writing the review. The font I used for this is simple and bold which relates to the theme. I decided to located them under the title so they are seen after the viewer has seen the title which infers to the audience that this film is good and therefore they would read on. The background is lines which creates the idea of lined paper this relates to the idea that I wanted to infer that it was something that Charlie had written/doodled on, this also relate to my film poster.

Throughout both of the pages I have decided to include some screenshots from the film and a behind the scenes photo. The reason why I decided to include a behind the scenes photograph is because I wanted to create the idea that the reviewer was there during the production of the film which in some cases is what happens it also infers that the review goes into depth about how it is made which is interesting to the film magazines target audience. The screenshots are from some of the best parts in the film. By showing the first one of his face the viewer can really see his emotion and can see that it is a drama. You can also tell by the close up shot that it is an intense part of the film. The other screenshot is also a close up, but this time it is of his shoe laces. The reason why I wanted to include this shot was that Charlie has his own way of tying his shoes which is unique and fascinating and fits in really well with he storyline. The images are spread across the two pages which allow the pages to be equally interesting and balanced. They also have captions which relate to the image, explaining what is going on in it which is also
another common convention of a magazine review. I also wanted to have a boarder around them because I wanted them to stand out and almost look childish which is the impression I wanted to create.

When working on the background I wanted to create the idea that is was something that Charlie had drawn on. This is the reason why I decided to have equations in the background. When I was doing my research into autism I found that people who are diagnosed with autism have a talent in understanding maths, because it is very logical and to people with autism, straightforward. Which is why I decided to have equations in the background. Other things I wanted to include in the background were drawings of Spiderman. I wanted a close up drawing and full body one to almost mirror the shots in the short film because I use a lot of close up shots, and a range of perspectives. The fact that they are drawn also relates to the idea that Charlie has drawn them which emphasises the idea that Spiderman is someone who he relates to and lives up to. They are situated in opposite corners one in the bottom left and the other in the top right, by me positioning them like this it again makes the pages equal and it also breaks the text up.

Other typical aspects of a magazine review which I decided to include were the page numbers and the name of the magazine in which the review was in. I decided to position them in the bottom corners of both pages. This is a typical place for the page numbers. The name of the magazine (Time Out Magazine) is small which is what is was like on other magazine reviews. I had them in a black, bold font which fits in with the theme and makes them stand out against the background. Another aspect which I included was the review. I wanted it to stand out so I positioned it on a black background and changed the colour of the font to white, this made it stand out as something important which it is because it is the thing that the page is about. I wrote the review in columns which is a common way that reviews are written. By having it in two collumns allowed me to position one per page which again made the pages equal. I also included a box with basic information about the film which includes the title, duration, synopsis, director and actors. I used the same technique with inverting the text and the box to make it again stand out.
